Exterior surfaces should be monitored closely
for cracking or peeling paint.
Once peeling paint is found, it should be removed
and the area primed with a ligitmate "Primer"
paint. Primer paints are designed to more effectively
adhere to a surface than traditional finish paint.
Look for unusual discoloration of wood or metal
surfaces that might indicate water damage. If
caught early enough, considerable cost can be
avoided.
Don't try to save money by waiting until you have
peeling paint. Peeling paint exposes the surfaces
of your house to the elements and this can affect
your homes ability to properly bond with the new
paint as it once did. Paint manufactureres recommend
repainting every six to eight years to maintain
the integrity of your homes finish.
When selecting a paint for your home, stick with
the proven leaders. Not only are you assured of
gettng a good product, you will have a company
that can help you determine the cause of any problems
you might have in the future.
If possible, use the best grade of paint made
by a particular company. The second best is adequate
will serve you a shorter period of time. Never
use the third grade. Unfortunately, this is the
paint that goes onto most new homes.
Interior painted surfaces require the same scrutiny
as the exterior. However, it is not as critical.
We tend to catch things quicker on the inside
of the home than outside. Nevertheless, look for
loose, peeling or discolored paint. Each of these
have a cause and need to be corrected.
